What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an alternative to wearing traditional metal braces. Invisalign can help straighten crooked teeth without having to have braces. Invisalign is a clear, removable retainer. It is clear and comfortable and can also be used as a mouthpiece in some sports.
How does Invisalign work?
Dr. Sapian will take imprints and photos of your mouth and current alignment and jaw. He then works with experts at Invisalign on creating a goal for your teeth alignment. Invisalign creates a series of clear retainers. You will wear each retainer for a period of two weeks and then switch to the next retainer. Each retainer progressively moves your teeth a little more toward your end goal. The length of treatment varies depending on your current alignment. Treatment can be as short as 6 months (Invisalign Express) to 24 months. Most cases are 12-18 months.
Invisalign has numerous advantages over traditional braces. There’s no need to have “metal mouth” anymore. No brackets or wires to come lose and poke or irritate your mouth. You do not have to be picky about what you eat and Invisalign is much easier to clean. You can remove the retainer for normal brushing and flossing. You can clean the retainer itself in a denture cleaner like Efferdent.
Who is Invisalign for?
Not all patients are candidates for Invisalign but most people are. There is Invisalign Teen for youth and regular Invisalign for any age. Even adults who were braces when they were young are getting Invisalign to touch up their teeth alignment.
